Rain Prayer
Joshua Maasbach
It rained today. Water poured out of the sky consuming everything. Things, people, trees, animals, the ground, the air, everything. Soaking wet. I smelt it and opened my mouth to drink it.
I looked at my arm and saw fat raindrops cascading in streams of shimmering silver. Liquid collisions making pools and bombing to the ground.
I looked to my right and saw an old man, crouched there with his hardened dagger brows – He sat. A large wet mass, motionless and getting wetter… He’d laid anchor beside me, content to rest in the water…
Surrounded by trees and flowers gulping in nature’s blessing, I too stood and soaked in God’s embrace, the cup of my soul running over in this refreshing moment.
May our hearts be flooded with the wonder of God’s grace, may our lips overflow with thanks and praise, and may our life soak people with the love that God has so freely rained on us.
(Time to chuck away the umbrellas)
